Do you want the session to include your partner and kids without it feeling too formal? Parks with open space, shade, and easy parking are your friend.

1. Phil Hardberger Park (8400 NW Military Highway, San Antonio, TX 78231)
Best For: Young Families - Nature - Oak Trees - Garden Style

Phil Hardberger Park is a great choice for maternity photos because it gives you nature without feeling too remote. There are trees, trails, open areas, native grasses, and beautiful oak-filled corners. It’s also a great option if young children and toddlers are coming because there’s room to move and breathe! Plus parking lots are very close. Phil Hardberger Park is best for family maternity photos, nature portraits, oak trees, neutral backgrounds, and relaxed outdoor sessions. It's also very possible to get a Western feel here if we style your family accordingly! Expect paved and natural trails, some walking, and a mix of shaded and open areas. The park is large, so choosing a specific meeting spot matters. It can be busy with walkers, runners, dogs, and families, especially on weekends.

2. King William District (131 King William Street, San Antonio, TX 78204)
Best For: Editorial Feel - Historic Architecture - Romance

The King William District has romantic, old San Antonio charm. Historic homes, tree-lined streets, pretty porches, wrought iron, brick, and quiet corners that feel elegant without being stuffy. King William is best for romantic portraits, historic architecture, city charm, riverwalk portraits and family or couples maternity photos. Expect sidewalk walking, some street crossings, and a mix of public spaces and residential areas. Shade is usually decent thanks to the tree coverage. Crowds vary, especially near restaurants and during events. Be respectful around private homes and stay in public areas. The King William District is very supportive of photography in the area, but it is still a residential neighborhood.
This is a beautiful choice if you want your maternity photos to feel polished, timeless, and a little editorial. King William is perfect if you love the idea of photos that feel like a slow stroll through a historic neighborhood and along the riverwalk. It pairs especially well with soft neutrals, or classic black and white styling, and an editorial style.
3. Brackenridge Park (3700 N. St. Mary’s Street, San Antonio, TX 78212)
Best For: Young Families - Water - Tall Trees - Garden Style

Brackenridge Park is classic San Antonio. It has trees, stonework, water, bridges, trails, and room for both posed portraits and playful family moments. I personally love to include both shots by the waterfront and in the dense trees of the park with the sunlight peeking through! It’s especially lovely if you want a natural feel without going too far from central San Antonio. It's best for classic outdoor portraits, family maternity sessions, large and established trees, bridges, and water views. Expect paved paths, grassy areas, some uneven ground, and plenty of shade in certain sections. Crowds can be heavy near popular attractions, picnic spots, and weekends. Parking depends on the time of day and what else is happening nearby.
4. The Pearl (303 Pearl Parkway, San Antonio, TX 78215)
Best For: City/Editorial Feel - Riverwalk - Tall Trees - Garden Style
Best Time: Morning/Soft Light & Fewer crowds
Best Season: Spring - Summer - Fall - Winter
Walking: Moderate walking through the centre

The Pearl is one of the best spots in town if you want a mix of modern, editorial, and relaxed. You get interesting architecture, greenery, river access nearby, textured walls, walkways, and plenty of variety in a small area. It's best for a modern approach to maternity photos, editorial looks, a city feel, and more outfits. Early morning is best if you want fewer crowds! Though of course, evening has the beautiful Golden Hour light, but it can be much busier at any point in the week. Expect walking on paved paths, stairs in some areas, and lots of people during popular times. Parking is not free! There are restaurants, shops, and gathering areas nearby, so plan for crowds if you book a weekend session. The Pearl is great if you want variety without driving between locations. You can get city and river-inspired images all in one session.

5. Landa Branch Library (233 Bushnell Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78212)

Landa Library is one of those hidden gems that feels calm, elegant, and sweetly romantic. The grounds have mature trees, historic architecture, stone details, and garden-like areas that work beautifully for maternity photos. Landa library lend itself to elegant maternity photos, romantic portraits, classic architecture, and quiet maintained garden looks. Expect light walking on sidewalks, grass, and garden areas. The trees usually provide good shade. Since it’s a public library, you’ll want to be mindful of visitors and any events. It’s usually calmer than major tourist locations! Morning light is peaceful and soft. Evening is always best for golden light that is filtering through the trees.

6. Japanese Tea Garden (3853 N. St. Mary’s Street, San Antonio, TX 78212)
Best For: Water Features - Ancient Stone - Lush Greenery
Best Time: Morning/Soft Light & Fewer crowds
Best Season: Spring - Summer - Fall - Winter
Walking: Moderate, Includes stairs and uneven stone paths
Bathroom: A/C & Facilities
The Japanese Tea Garden is dramatic and whimsical and dreamy! Ancient stone walkways, lush plants, bridges, water features, and layered garden views make it feel totally different from a typical park session. Morning is usually best for softer light and fewer people. Evening can be pretty, but crowds may be heavier. With the San Antonio Japanese Tea Gardens we do need to work around their operating hours (Monday-Sunday 7AM-5PM). Expect stairs, stone paths, bridges, and some uneven surfaces. This location is not the easiest if walking is uncomfortable. Shade is available in many areas, but some spots are open. It’s a popular location for visitors and photos, so bring patience!
7. Senator Frank Madla Natural Area (9780 Menchaca Road, San Antonio, TX 78245)
Best For: Young Families - Tall Grass - Open Field - Surrounded by Hills
Best Time: Evening/Golden Hour
Best Season: Spring - Summer - Fall - Winter
Walking: Moderate walking on dirt pathways
Bathroom: Outhouse
Senator Frank Madla Natural Area has a more rustic, open feel. It’s a beautiful option if you like tall grasses, natural textures, and quiet trails. This is one of the only locations I have found with true hills and Hill Country views that is close driving distance to San Antonio! It feels less manicured than some of the other locations, which can be exactly what makes it special. Evening is usually the best choice here because the open areas can catch glowing light. Expect natural trails, uneven ground, limited shade in some areas, and a more outdoorsy feel. This location may not be ideal if you need very easy walking, however the spots I like to shoot at here are pretty close together! Crowds are usually lighter than central parks, but conditions can change with weather. Fall is gorgeous for golden tones. Spring brings greenery and wildflowers. Winter gives a soft, earthy look, often with more fall colors in the hills in the backgrounds. The hottest months here are August and September, though the shade usually makes it more manageable.

8. Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne (140 City Park Road, Boerne, TX 78006)
Best For: Young Families - Tall Grass - Open Field - River Access
Best Time: Evening/Golden Hour

Walking: Moderate walking on dirt pathways

Cibolo Nature Center is one of those places that feels like a little breath of fresh air outside the city. It's a short drive from San Antonio into Boerne and has fields, creek areas, trails, trees, and a soft golden Hill Country feel that works beautifully for maternity portraits. Ir's best for romantic nature portraits, tall grass, soft fields, creekside photos, wildflower-inspired sessions, and peaceful maternity photos. Expect some walking on natural trails. Terrain can be uneven, and some areas may be dusty, muddy, or grassy depending on recent weather. Shade varies by area. Crowds are usually lighter than major San Antonio parks, but weekends can still bring visitors. Comfortable shoes between photo spots are a good idea as there's a good bit of walking between photo spots.

Live Oak Lake City Park is simple, secluded, and beautiful. It gives you lakeside views, trees, walking paths, and open green areas without feeling formal. Evening by the lake is stunning, and morning sessions can be beautiful if the skies are clear. Expect paved paths, grassy areas, bridges, water features, and plenty of shade in many spots. It’s a popular family park, so weekends and warm days can be busy. Parking is usually easier during quieter times. Live Oak Park is beautiful year-round and is usually one of the only locations I shoot at that can remain green through the winter. It's a great pick when you want something natural, pretty, and private.

10. Landa Park in New Braunfels (164 Landa Park Drive, New Braunfels, TX 78130)

Landa Park is worth the drive if you want beautiful river scenery, big trees, bridges, and a peaceful park setting with lots of variety. It has a softer, almost storybook feel in certain areas, especially near the water and shaded paths. Evening light is stunning during Golden Hour! Expect paved paths, grassy areas, bridges, water features, and plenty of shade in many spots. It’s a popular family park, so weekends and warm days can be busy. Parking is usually easier during quieter times. Spring, summer, and fall all photograph beautifully. Summer is lush. Fall brings comfortable weather and rich color from the Cypress trees. Winter can still be pretty near the water when the rest of the park has started to go dormant.
