Lively Phil Hardberger Park Maternity Photos at Golden Hour | The Petty Family
Maternity photos with toddlers do not have to feel calm, quiet, or perfectly posed to be beautiful.
These Phil Hardberger Park maternity photos in San Antonio are the perfect example.
This mama was pregnant with her third baby, and we photographed the whole family together during golden hour. Her two older children were still very little, around one-and-a-half and maybe three years old, so the session naturally had plenty of movement, snacks, books, games, and moments where we simply followed their lead.
And that was exactly what made it so much fun.
Rather than expecting two toddlers to stand still and smile for an entire maternity session, we built the experience around them. We walked through the park, played games, took little breaks when they needed them, and let the evening unfold naturally.
The result was a maternity gallery that felt lively, affectionate, playful, and completely true to this season of their family.

Golden Hour Maternity Photos at Phil Hardberger Park
Phil Hardberger Park is one of my favorite places for maternity photos in San Antonio, especially when young children are part of the session.
The open spaces, trails, mature trees, and natural Texas landscape give toddlers room to move without making the session feel overly structured.
For this family, golden hour gave us beautiful warm light while the kids had space to explore and play nearby.
We created portraits of Mom on her own, photographs of both parents together, and plenty of images of the whole family interacting.
That balance is one of my favorite parts of maternity photography when older siblings are involved.
This season is about the baby you are waiting to meet, but it is also about the family that already exists.
Maternity Photos With Toddlers Can Still Feel Relaxed
Photographing maternity sessions with toddlers looks a little different than photographing a couple expecting their first baby.
And that is a good thing!
With young children, I do not expect them to spend the entire session posing or looking at the camera.
Instead, we build in movement, games, snacks, and breaks.
For this session, books and simple games helped keep the kids engaged, while snacks gave us an easy reset when they needed one.
None of that takes away from the photographs.
In fact, those little pauses and playful moments often create some of the most meaningful images in the gallery.
A toddler sitting beside Mom with a book.
A child reaching for Dad.
Everyone laughing after a game.
Tiny hands resting on Mom's belly.
Those moments tell the story of what this season actually felt like.
A Family Maternity Session That Felt Like Them
What I loved most about this session was how alive it felt.
There was movement.
There was laughter.
There were moments when someone needed a snack.
There were moments when we slowed everything down and focused on Mom.
And there were moments when the entire family came together naturally.
That is exactly how I approach maternity photography with older siblings.
Your children do not need to perform for the camera.
They do not need to be perfectly behaved.
They just need enough space to be themselves.
I will guide you when needed, but I also leave room for your kids to move, play, and interact with you in ways that feel natural.
The goal is not to create photographs that make your family look perfectly controlled.
The goal is to create photographs that feel like your family.
Planning Maternity Photos With Toddlers?
If you are expecting another baby and wondering whether your older children will be able to handle a maternity session, you are not alone.
This is one of the biggest concerns I hear from moms.
But toddlers do not have to be still, quiet, or endlessly cooperative for your maternity photos to be beautiful.
We can plan the session around their ages.
That might mean choosing a location like Phil Hardberger Park where they have room to move, bringing familiar snacks, packing a favorite book, playing simple games, and giving them breaks throughout the evening.
It also means adjusting expectations.
Your toddler may not look at the camera every time.
They may want to be held.
They may get distracted.
They may decide that a stick on the ground is much more interesting than anything I am doing.
That is all completely normal.
I know how to work with it.
My goal is to help you create a maternity gallery that honors both the baby you are waiting for and the children who already made you a mom.
Why Phil Hardberger Park Works So Well for Maternity Photos With Kids
Phil Hardberger Park is especially helpful for families with toddlers because the environment gives them something to do.
Rather than spending the entire session asking little kids to stay in one exact spot, we can walk, explore, play, and move through the park.
The natural scenery also gives us a lot of visual variety.
We can create soft portraits beneath the trees, use the trails for walking photographs, and move into open areas as the light changes.
For parents, that flexibility can make the session feel much less stressful.
You do not have to spend your maternity photos constantly correcting your children.
You get to interact with them.
Hold them.
Play with them.
Laugh with them.
And trust me to photograph everything happening in between.

Your San Antonio Maternity Photographer
Maternity photos do not have to become a completely separate experience from the rest of your family.
Your toddlers can be part of it.
The snacks can be part of it.
The running around can be part of it.
The laughter can be part of it.
Because this pregnancy is not happening in isolation.
It is happening in the middle of your real life, while little people are still asking to be carried, climbing into your lap, and learning how to become older siblings.
That is what makes this season worth remembering.
